Divide students into two groups. Ask students to imagine that Albert had not kept Celie's letters from her all these years. Rather, she received them when Nettie had sent them. How might have Celie's life changed? Would it have changed at all, considering the environment in which she lived? Ask them to write a brief paragraph exploring these possibilities.
