The Color of Water

Why did Ruth never talk about the topic of race with her children?

I believe the answer is simple but I am unsure what it is exactly

Ruth never talked about the topic of race because love was at the forefront of everything she believed. She did not see color, she saw human beings. This belief became a hurdle for her children to cross, as they couldn't understand why she seemed oblivious to the actions of others.
