In my opinion, Uncle Axel has the most influence over David of any character. He is kind, understanding, loyal, and trustworthy. Uncle Axel's selflessness and advice are integral to David's survival.

Joseph Strorm wields an iron fist over his family and neighborhood. He is adamant about maintaining the Waknuk society's genetic code "clean." David is impacted by his father's controlling presence when he is very young. David is a dynamic figure in this regard. As the story unfolds, David's disagreements with his father become more pronounced. Uncle Axel is the adult David most frequently consults when he requires assistance.

Uncle Axel becomes David's confidant since he is the only adult who is aware of David's skill and is unwilling to report him as a Deviant. Uncle Axel assists David in concealing his skills and cautions him against revealing them.

Sophie Wender the six-toed girl, and she has an early impact on David. He sees that she has a genetic anomaly, but he also sees that she is a regular person. Her humanity has a far greater impact on him than her strangeness. David assists her in keeping her secret, and she repays him by assisting David and his friends in escaping.
