I can give you two:

David's house was built by his grandfather, Elias Strorm. Elias was a strict orthodox believer in religion. The house becomes a symbol and testament to the strength of their faith.

David's mother decorated the house with proverbs from a book called Repentances. This becomes a constant reminder to David about religion and what is considered "normal". The prominent quote was, Watch thou for the mutant!
