Why is it significant that Mr. Savo repeats that he world is cockeyed?
This goes back to the idea that there are multiple levels of seeing. On the physical level, the world is cockeyed because Reuven and Mr. Savo are on the eye ward where no one’s sight is clear. The world is also cockeyed on an emotional or spiritual level both with the changes happening in Reuven with his friendship with Danny beginning to bloom and the emotional turmoil involved with potentially losing his eyesight. The war and all the craziness that comes with war is also making the world cockeyed.
