Holden's Pseudonyms indicate his insicurities with himself. Each name  reflects a personality that Hoden does not share but rather fantisizes about. Take, for example, the name he gives to the prostitute Sunny. He calls himself Jim Steele. Whatever "Jim Steele" is supposed to represent, it isn't Holden!
