The Catcher in the Rye

How does Holden attempt to communicate with Jane? What might be implied in his message?

Ultimately, do you think his attempts will be effective, why or why not?

Holden pretty much thinks about calling Jane all through the story. He actually does call her once but hangs up. I think Holden is scared of any substantial emotions. He longs for them but can't seem to connect in the present. Holden does think of Jane....again at the end of the novel while he watches his sister Phoebe on play. Perhaps something in Holden will finally crack his depressing shell of negativity that he thinks protects him.
