who is mr spencer and why does holden go and visit him

i take it that you havent read the story? mr. spencer is a teacher who he likes and goes to visit before he leaves.the reason he visits him is that he realy respects mr. spencer and that was one of the people he wanted to say bye to because he felt close to him. mr spencer also failed holden but gives him advice and holden accepts his advise because he doens't think mr. spencer is a phony.
