In the Franklin's Tale, Aurelius paid the magician even though he did not stay with Dorigen in the end. Why did he still pay the magician?

It was because it was just a promise and it is a joke about the rocks but the magician really help to remove all the rocks from Brittany in order to let Aurelius stay with Dorigen.
