The Caliph's House: A Year in Casablanca Background

The Caliph's House: A Year in Casablanca is a Moroccan folklore written by Tahir Shah and was released on October 26 2006 by Bantam Dell publishers.

The story follows the life of Tahir Shah, an Anglo-Afhan immigrant, who travels with his family to Morocco to set up a life there. Shah and his family move to a house called Dar Khalifa (The Caliph's House) that is plagued by Jinn's. Shah details his experience living in the house and the three Guardian's that come along with the house in order to keep the Shah's from the dangers of the Jinn.

The novel has had many positive reviews and has been translated into Spanish, French, German, Italian, Swedish and Dutch. TIME magazine named it as one of 10 Best Books of 2006.

The sequel, In Arabian Nights, was released on December 2007 and picks up from where The Caliph's House ended. A film has been optioned by screenplay writers Chad and Carey Hayes who wrote the screenplay for horror movies such as The Conjuring and House of Wax.
