Why does Mother ask Bruno to not use the word ‘hate’?

Mother, like many other people, thinks the word hate to be extreme..... that you shouldn't "hate" anything. The irony of course is that Bruno's father is in the business of hate. He follows Hitler who is consumed by hate.
