Why does Maria defend Father? (page 60)

Bruno is angry that his father brought them to the middle of nowhere, that he moved the family...... something Bruno doesn't understand. Maria reminds him that his father is a good man, that he should be proud of him, and that he had taken her in when she needed help. In essence, she reprimanded Brino for behaving and speaking selfishly.
