What is Shmuel's perception of Auschwitz and what page is it said? (Go by the page numbers in the paperback 10th Anniversary Edition of the book)

Shmuel is still innocent about the function of the camp. Shmuel used to have friends to play with at Out-With, but that "they disappeared without even saying goodbye to him". I think the author uses this for dramatic irony. I don't have your copy of the book but my quote is from pg. 158 of my copy.
