Why Kotler was unsympatic and nervous ?

Sympathy or empathy was not part of Kotler's psyche. He had been a product of the Nazi Youth and identified with a fascist devotion to the fatherland. He wanted to look and sound unconcerned with emotion. Kotler felt positive emotions were weak. I think he was nervous when he was around Bruno's father or having to speak about his own past.
