Kotler is mean and he likes to taunt Bruno. He grabs Bruno's book and inquires about it. Bruno uses a bit of subtle sarcasm to put Kotler in his place. Kotler inquires if the protagonist, Jim Hawkins, is a British boy. He says this in a tone that suggests a British boy is somehow sub-standard.
