Shmuel does not understand that the Nazis are trying to irradiate Jews. He does not understand that his family is probably dead and that he will be killed in the gas chambers.

Shmuel doesn't understand that he is going to die and he thinks about if he will be let out.He is as innocent as Bruno and doesn't know what the soldiers are doing to people.
