Yes, Bruno respects his father, but he also sees him for what he is..... his father. Bruno's discussions with his father are really no different than any boy's conversations with his dad. The difference being, there are things that Bruno's father can't and will not share with him. Bruno also defers to his father's position.... he forgets to salutebut he also salutes without hesitation when reminded.
