Why Bruno's family invited Kotler for dinner ?  why Bruno's father don't stopped Kotler when he beating Pavel ?

 Kotler is under Bruno's father's command and, apparently, a model of a young Nazi soldier. Bruno's father fears interfering with Kotler's abuse of a Jew because it would be dangerous for him and his family. Jewish cultural genocide was a cornerstone of Nazi dogma.
