The Boy in the Striped Pajamas

about Maria

How has Maria always behaved? Why do you think she had been hesitant to get in the car and accompany Mother and the children when they moved? In what way is she us different?

Maria has always been loyal to Bruno's father. Her hesitation makes us aware that she understands where they're going and is uncomfortable with the move. None-the-less, loyalty wins out over conscience. She accompanies the family to Auschwitz.
