why was school a failure for leisel?

WE aren't sure why Liesel had not gone to school other than her father's affiliation with the Communists prevented her. When she went to live with Hans and Rosa, school was tough. She was made fun of because of her lack of reading ability. She, of course, is super intelligent and makes up for it later.
