I think that Zusak wanted to give readers a glimpse into what ordinary Germans might have been like during this era. Not all Germans followed Hitler and there were people like Hans Hubermann that were extraordinarily kind and empathetic. Some Germans did blindly fallow Hitler but Zusak provides insight into the powerful Nazi propaganda machine as well as the intimidation and forced indoctrination used by the Nazis to control citizens.

I need help on my quarterly history exam and the question is about the book thief. why were there no heroes or villains, except for hitler portrayed
