The only way Hans and his son could have made peace would have been to put aside their political differences and beliefs. Politics have placed a barrier between countless family members. In order to make peace, both Hans and his son would have had to put aside their beliefs during their time together. They also would have had to learn to accept each other unconditionally. Han's son was so tied up in his support of Hitler, he couldn't see the man who'd raised him. I don't think there was any way to patch up their relationship.
