There is very little about Hans that wouldn't be considered beautiful. His love is unconditional, he's a wonderful father figure to Liesel and mentor for Max. He is patient, caring, attentive, and moral. He puts right before wrong, and even puts his relationship with

Ugliness is a bit harder to find in this good man. If his desire to stay out of the war can be considered ugly, that might be one. If his harshness with Rosa can be considered ugly..... we also have to consider which of her actions and language cause him to be harsh. Like Rosa, he also protects and affords Max a safe harbor, irregardless of the danger it put him in.
