The book theif

There are so many characters who demonstrate courage in this novel. There is Hans who refrains from joining the Nazi Party and helps Jews when he can. There is also our protagonist Liesel. She defies all expectations of a young German girl during this time. From teaching herself to read and write to stealing books that could get her killed to becoming a big part of Max and the Huberman's lives, Liesel never ceases to impress. Even death himself is impressed with her courage.
