Book burning was a horrible thing. The Nazis burned countless of historical, artistic, and philosophical books in an attempt to control information and thought. Books are the lifeblood of this story and our passionately literate protagonist is hungry for them. The burning of books is juxtaposed by Liesel’s thirst to read and protect them.
