Death states, “I’m always finding humans at their best and worst. I see their ugly and their beauty, and I wonder how the same thing can be both.” (p. 491) What is ugly and beautiful about Liesel, Max Vandenburg and Rudy Steiner?

I actually do not see anything ugly about these characters rather, their beauty comes shining through. Each has their personality traits but they are not ugly. They all have a passion for justice and peace as well as a collective hatred of the Nazis.
