Unlike most Germans, Hans has no hatred for the Jews. His life, was in fact, saved by a Jew..... Max's father. He also has many Jewish customers in his business. Hans refuses to join the Nazi party, and even helps fix Jewish stores, which have been vandalized. I completely understand and support Hans' reasons for withholding his membership from the Nazi Party. His refusal illustrates acute foresight and strength of character.
