I'd have to go with Hans Hubermann. The best thing about him is that he doesn't act like the anyone else. Instead, he is kind and compassionate to anyone in need, which is why I love his character. Moral obligation and idealism don't prod him into action, rather he acts and reacts to the situations of others with primal, instinctual empathy. The charactes in this novel are all special in their own way........... but hans, he's a heartwarmer.
