The Nazi Party are considered villains, as well as Hitler. The story, however, isn't as much about the villains, as it is about those who experienced the tyranny of Hitler's regime. It's about the ordinary people.... the people who didn't go along with Hitler, the people who were hiding, the people who lost family members, and the people who survived.

As for heroes.... Liesel was a hero. Hans and Rosa were heroes to the child they took in. Rudy was a hero. Max was a hero.
