How does the book complicate to our ideas of justice and judgment

Much of the novel deals with the suffering of innocent and good people. The war seems to, for a time, reward evil and punish goodness. Most of Liesel's friends, neighbours, and family die in the war along with countless Jews and other prisoners: there is no justice for them.
