Did the book burning on Hitler's birthday actually happen in real life?

The largest book burning took place on the 10th of May. Hitler's birthday (April 20th) was historically marked as a day of celebration for the Hitler Youth, and a day designated to induct new members. It is said that book burnings were also held on this day, but I do not find any evidence to support the event in "The Book Thief." Thus, did it happen? I couldn't say yes or no, but I can say it's possible.
