My favourite quote from this section is really one of the last lines. Death simply states that, "I am haunted by humans." Death has been perplexed by the human condition right through the book. Death is puzzled at the paradox that makes humanity . Humans can be at once heroic and sick. They are capable of immense self-sacrifice yet hideous cruelty. Death is impressed by them and repulsed by them. In the end, they haunt him.
