In the story, the narrator and Uncle Matt eventually put down all of the cats and the dogs in
the area to be sure the infection doesn’t spread. Why did they think this was the right
decision? How do you feel about their actions? What else could the narrator and Uncle Matt
have done to protect people from rabid animals or to keep the disease from spreading?

I think that, under what they knew about infection at the time, they had little choice. There was no other way to stop the spread other than a mass culling.

How is uncle Matt handling the situation
