Before, his imprisonment, the lawyer is an idealistic young man, full of hopes and dreams. He is twenty-five-years old. During his imprisonment, the lawyer undergoes a massive transformation, ultimately renouncing his reward for winning the bet, and satisfied instead, with just proving his point. He has become a bitter, skeletal man, looking much much older than his 40 years.
