what triggers esthers first thoughts of suiciede?

what setting, person, or life event accompanies her suicidal thoght? does her initial trigger affect her later thoughts and plans regarding suicide?

Esther had a lot of mother issues so I tend to think mother would have something to do with the dark thoughts. Esther was really disturbed when mother wouldn't let her go her father's funeral. That could have been where they started.
