Why did Estevan and Esperanza have to leave Mattie’s house?

Mattie has provided the couple with a temporary haven, but what they need a safe place. The sanctuary will provide them the safety they need. Immigration cannot take them there, therefore they cannot be deported. For as long as they live with Mattie they're in danger, and actually, so is Mattie.
