whats the signifagance of turtles first sound and word?

Kingsolver uses birds to reflect Turtle throughout the book. Turtle’s first sound is of quail family. Baby quails often die because they are not fast enough or strong enough. Perhaps Turtle sees this in herself. Turtle miraculously survived a traumatic babyhood as well.
