Birds are usually linked with Turtle in this novel. Like Turtle, they are beautiful and fragile. Although the bird in the house looked dead, it seemingly survived and flew away. Not all birds are so lucky. The blackbird symbolized the possibility of Turtle being damaged beyond repair.
