In my opinion, Leon loves his wife. He indulges her, allows her to do what makes her happy, and gives into her whims. Mr. Pontellier's greatest weakness might even be the fact that he gives in. Busy with his own life, particularly work, his main priority is providing for his family finincially..... not emotionally.
