In Chapters Five and Six, Malcolm's descriptions of the people he meets at Small's help the reader to understand the influence of his "street education." In these chapter, he learns how to make fast money, and he is attracted to a lifestyle he's never known before. These chapters also enlighten the reader to Malcolm's drug and alcohol use.
