The Atlantis Plague (The Origin Mystery Book 2) Quotes

Quotes

"We’re not just fighting the plague,” Martin whispered. “We’re fighting the survivors who don’t want a cure, who see this as either humanity’s next step or a completely new beginning.”

Martin (Ch. 5)

This quote reveals the true scope of the struggle Kate and her friends must undertake: the plague isn't all they're fighting anymore. They also have to fight against those who believe that this forced evolutionary step is the best one for humanity to take. Those who support these views are generally either Atlantean (Ares/Dorian), Immari, or those who have already survived the virus and become stronger. The effects of the virus are deadly: it turns humanity against itself.

"Evolution is inevitable. Only fools fight fate."

Immari Corporation (epigraph)

This quote is the slogan for the Immari Corporation, the major organization of evil that Kate and her associates must combat in order to save humanity. The Immari are in favor of sitting back and watching the plague take its effect, separating the strong from the weak, and then building a new world order with the aid of the strong, improved humans. They believe that the evolution of humanity is an inevitable result, and if you oppose the progress of evolution, your position is ultimately doomed to fail, so you might as well join the ranks of those making the evolution occur.

“Yes, it’s a lie, but the media repeated it, and a lie repeated becomes perception, and perception is reality. Perception is also very hard to change.”

Martin (Ch. 19)

In this quote, Martin is giving profound insight into the nature of perception and reality in a media-driven world. When a particular story or viewpoint is propagated through the media, it solidifies into a distinct perspective. When enough people are exposed to this perspective, it generally becomes seen as true. This is the basis of propaganda, and, terrifyingly, it is also the principle that media operates from. Such an embedded perspective seems to become reality, and it's very difficult to change once it does so, making Kate's position a nearly hopeless one.
