What's the significance of this quote to the book and what do you think the authors point is?

"And, when you want something with all your heart, that's when you are closest to the Soul of the World. It's always a positive force." What does the author mean with this quote? And how does it relate to the book?

Longing for something that completes one's soul is close to figuring out the meaning of life, or at least your own life. Santiago followed his bliss. He gave up his comfortable job of herding sheep to enter an unknown world. He answered his call to find out his soul of the world.
