I wouldn't say that Santiago is completely a dynamic character. He certainly discovers, through the description of the robbers dream, that his marvellous treasure was always close to home. The question remains, did Santiago's personality change because of this revelation? I tend to think that Santiago remains the intrepid, gentle, and spiritual hero that we met in the beginning of the novel. The only difference at the end is that he returns more self-aware.
