What does it tells us about the old man, Melchizedek when he says, "It's too bad that he's quickly going to forget my name, he thought.I should have repeated it for him.Then when he spoke about me he would say that I am Melchizedek, the king of Salem".

Melchizedek is speaking about what he has accomplished with Santiago. He thinks that Santiago will forget him after he leaves. Although he is aware that vanity about helping Santiago is wrong, he still hopes the boy is successful in finding his personal legend.
