In both cases Aeneas is leaving because he has a greater destiny to fulfill. In leaving Troy he takes with him his father Anchises; in leaving Carthage, he leaves behind a future in which he will be somewhat happy living with the woman he loves and ruling a secure and prosperous city. On the other hand, he must fulfill his "fate," so he must go to Rome and complete his logical mission in founding the city of Rome.
