The Adventures of Tom Sawyer

How does the author develop the theme that obligation is what distinguishes work from play?

I don't understand.

Because.if your obligated to do something, then you'll do it. This is as to work, since you are obligated to do your work, meaning you have to do it even if you don't feel like it. This is unlike play since play is doing something (playing) not because you have an obligation to do it, but because YOU want to.
