Tom certainly is the protagonist of the story. Tom is the driving force behind most of the decisions made. From his scheme to make money off other boys painting Aunt Polly's fence to his decision to visit the graveyard with Huck at night, Tom is the instigator of his own adventures. Tom hence becomes a boy that's larger than life. His curiosity and free spirit are made evident by the decisions he makes.
