Silas is Tom Sawyer's aunt, married to Aunt Sally. He is the one who buys Jim off the King, and Huck lives with them as "Tom Sawyer," which means that when the real Tom shows up, he pretends to be "Huck Finn."

Silas was Tom Sawyer's uncle. He and Huck met when Huck was pretending to be Tom while attempting to free Jim from slavery. Even Tom went along with the story a little while later and pretended to be his own brother. They spend a long time with Silas planning Jim's escape. Tom had figured everything out and the plan was intricate down to the last detail. Ironically, all they had to do to rescue him was climb into a window!
