The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn

Huck Finn

Consider the role of family units. What are they like? How do they function? Huck and Widow Douglass/Miss Watson; Huck and Pap; Huck and Jim; the Grangerfords; etc.

Discuss the place of morality in Huckleberry Finn. In the world of the novel, where do moral values come from? The community? The family? The church? One’s experiences? Which of these potential sources does Twain privilege over the others? Which does he mock, or describe disapprovingly?

This question is much too involved for a short answer forum.

Widow Douglass and Miss Watson take responsibility for Huck and welcome him into their home. They intend to mold him into a civilized citizen. Pap comes back into Huck's life because of the treasure...... he doesn't return because he loves him, but rather because he seeks to benefit.
