I have always liked Jim as a character. He is a down to earth individual who is naturally kind. Although he is an escaped slave, his only desire is to see his family and live a peaceful life of freedom. He is naturally loyal to Huck because he sees in him a kindred spirit. He is the kind of low-maintenance friend that you could always count on.
